Box with a lid
You type the inside size, the wall, the corner radius and the play between lid and box; you get a box and a lid with a rim that slides into it. The lid prints upside down beside the box.
What it is good for
- Boxes for small parts, SD cards, batteries, jewellery
- Gift boxes
- A case for something you measured with a ruler
How to make it
- Open the template and type the inside width, length and height.
- Set the wall (2 mm by default), the corner radius and the play (0.25 mm by default).
- Add a pocket, a text on the lid or a hole – they are ordinary shapes now.
- Download for your printer.
Printing it
- If the lid is too tight, make the play bigger by 0.1 mm; if it falls off, smaller.
- Both parts print without supports: the box open side up, the lid rim up.
Questions and answers
How precise is it?
The sizes are exact to the millimetre; the play is what your printer needs on top of that. 0.2–0.3 mm suits most printers.
Can I have dividers inside?
Yes – add rectangles standing on the box's floor as walls.
